King Strang – “Second Coming” – LP

With The Second Coming, the multi-talented King Strang (who you might also recognize as a key player in the Bridge City Sinners circle) delivers a phenomenal solo effort that sounds like it was pulled straight out of a smoke-filled 1920s vaudeville parlor or a gritty Delta blues joint. Originally dropped digitally in 2020, Flail Records gave it the proper vinyl treatment, giving fans a physical piece of his signature “swing-punk” sound.

The record is a brilliantly stylized blend of ragtime jazz, old-school acoustic blues, and dark cabaret, all delivered with a distinct modern punk snarl. Armed with a resonator guitar, brass, and his brilliantly expressive vocals, King Strang weaves tales of heartache, doom, and general debauchery. It’s snappy, incredibly danceable, and captures a timeless acoustic grit that makes it stand out uniquely in the modern underground roots scene.
