Caroline is a 2021 split 7-inch single pairing Houston-based thrift-punk/folk-punk heavyweights Days N’ Daze with singer-songwriter Andrew Paley. Co-released for the international DIY circuit, the record was handled by Flail Records in the United States and SBÄM Records in Europe. The first pressing configuration was distributed on 45 RPM vinyl across two distinct regional color variants: 275 copies on brown splatter wax for the US market and 225 copies on orange vinyl for the European release.
The concept of the split revolves entirely around a singular track: “Caroline,” a song originally written and performed by Paley for his solo album Scattered Light. Side A features a cover of the track by Days N’ Daze, who strip down Paley’s work and re-envision it in their signature, high-octane “riot folk” style—incorporating abrasive dual vocals, fast-picked acoustic guitar, trumpet accents, and washboard rhythms. Side B features Andrew Paley’s original version, a melancholic track that blends alternative indie singer-songwriter sensibilities with subtle 1980s new wave undertones and driving post-punk basslines reminiscent of his work with post-hardcore outfit The Static Age.
