All Torn Up – “Wake”

Wake is the 2020 conceptual EP from New York City-based anarcho-punk and hardcore outfit All Torn Up!. Released as a 7-inch vinyl record configured to play at 45 RPM, the physical EP was independently manufactured and distributed entirely DIY (Not On Label) on a limited purple wax variant.

The record delivers a blistering, high-velocity combination of traditional New York hardcore and highly charged anarcho-punk. Fronted by vocalist Joey Steel with guitar work by Cello, All Torn Up! punctuates their frantic d-beat rhythms and raw guitar distortion with direct socio-political critique. Notably, the audio production anchors its message by weaving in vocal sound clips from iconic civil rights activist Malcolm X, layered right alongside aggressive background gang vocals.
