Co-released in 2006 by the DIY partnerships of No Way Records and Tankcrimes, the self-titled Split between California’s Strung Up and Richmond, Virginia’s Direct Control stands as a landmark meeting of early-2000s 80s-style hardcore revivalists. Side A features the blistering, street-level thrash of Strung Up, heavily channeling the breakneck velocity of Poison Idea and the local Bay Area bite of The Lewd. On the flip side, Direct Control delivers an unrelenting masterclass in velocity and precise aggression, deeply indebted to the classic, rapid-fire approach of Negative Approach and Minor Threat. Both bands strip away modern studio embellishments to deliver straightforward, lightning-fast tracks with barked political and societal frustrations, making this collaborative effort an essential document of the era’s thrashcore renascence.
