Released in 2005 as a joint CD venture between 625 Thrashcore and Tankcrimes, Youth Revolt compiles the absolute best recorded output of the high-energy Bay Area, California hardcore outfit Second Opinion. Formed on the high school house-show circuit and active throughout the 2000s, the band delivered a rapid-fire, chant-heavy style heavily indebted to traditional 1980s American thrashcore pioneers. They draw immediate sonic comparisons to the relentless pace of 9 Shocks Terror and Limpwrist, while mixing in the frantic, localized aggression of contemporary peers like Scholastic Deth and Deadfall. The studio tracks are brief, explosive bursts packed with anti-authoritarian shouts and razor-sharp minor-key hooks, moving seamlessly into a selection of fierce, localized live recordings that accurately translate the sweaty, chaotic friction of the era’s regional DIY scenes.
