Co-released in 2009 by Boston’s Rodent Popsicle Records and Oakland’s Pyrate Punx Records, Pick Yer Poison is a rowdy, high-energy split album that bridges the Pacific Northwest and West Coast street-punk scenes.
Side A features Portland, Oregon’s Rum Rebellion, delivering a “salty” mix of traditional sea chanteys, Irish folk melodies, and charging street punk/Oi!. Driven by acoustic guitars, tin whistle, and aggressive group choruses, their half of the split evokes the rowdy spirit of The Pogues and Dropkick Murphys with a distinct, unpolished DIY edge.
On the flip side, Vancouver/Portland-based Hammered Grunts shift the gears into straight-ahead, aggressive street punk and melodic hardcore. Packed with anti-establishment angst and fast, driving tempos, their tracks deliver a relentless sonic assault that perfectly rounds out this beer-soaked underground collaboration.
