Lo Pan – “Colossus”

Released in 2014 through Small Stone Records, Colossus stands as a defining monument of modern melodic stoner rock from Columbus, Ohio’s heavy-hitting veterans Lo-Pan. Recorded and mixed under the guidance of producer Andrew Schneider, the album masterfully fuses a gargantuan, fuzz-drenched sonic weight with incredibly soulful, soaring clean melodies. Jeff Martin’s remarkable vocal presence completely transcends typical genre boundaries, evoking the powerhouse dynamic of 1990s grunge giants like Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, while the rhythm section drives a grooving, freight-train cadence heavily indebted to Kyuss and Clutch. The seamless interplay between thunderous riffs and infectious hooks on standout tracks like Regulus, Black Top Revelation, and Vox creates a massive, driving atmosphere that values precision songwriting just as much as pure volume.
