Deviated Instinct – “Liberty Crawls”

Liberty Crawls… To the Sanctuary of Slaves is the 2012 comeback EP from British stencil-crust pioneers Deviated Instinct. Released by Terminal Filth Records, the record marked the band’s first official studio material in over 22 years following their initial late-1980s run. The physical 10-inch vinyl pressing was distributed on heavy-weight black vinyl alongside limited color variants, including purple marbled wax.

The recording features a distinct return to the band’s foundational sound, pairing slow, metallic death-doom riffs with traditional UK crust punk velocity. Recorded at the 1in12 Studio in Bradford by engineer Bri Doom and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, the material heavily favors abrasive bass tones and dual vocal layering. Original guitarist and vocalist Mid handled the distinctive black-and-white cover illustration through his personal workshop, Bonehive Designs.
